New Wings

This is an old pic, but I thought I might post this just to get people's opinion on this.
I made this image just to try out postwork and rendering an image in multiple layers. The moth is not that detailed (sorry about that) because my main focus was supposed to be the wings. The postwork was a pain. I rendered this image in 4000 x 3000 and I had four separate layers to combine and shade. Brought my machine to it's knees. This image was later seen in 3D World magazine and some other places in various forms.
trueSpace7 users might recognize it.
Modelled and rendered in trueSpace 3.2
Postwork in Corel GS 12

The King Of Dreams

This image was done from a quick idea about the classical sandman. The idealized version, that we often see in children's books - the guy with the blue hat and pouch full of sand - is really too scary for me so I decided to go with my own idea of that nightly figure. Here is a typical day at work or a night in work, where we see the man himself trying to decide which one of the two nightmares he's holding would be less scary for me.
Ultimately, he will probably go with the more scarier one. Story of my life.

The figure is "molded" in ZBrush and rendered in trueSpace. The globs and the curtain are modelled inside tS. Then a heavy post with Corel Photo-Paint and Paint Shop Pro (Hey, I love classic programs). Hope you like this one!

V for Victory

I was a big fan of V when it first came out. My love for the series has been growing bigger ever since they released the show on the DVD. The biggest news for V fans was the possible release of a sequel-series titled "V: The Second Generation". I quickly scetched out a few concept works and a fanmade poster to celebrate the announcement. As with many times in the media-mentality of amercan television, the "V: Second Generation" was not considered a mainstream series and so the network decided to freeze the project at the final meters. For this portfolio, I took out the V model I had made for the poster and combined it with one of my matteclouds. This image was one of the "doom" concept ideas that I had in mind when I first heard about the new series.

Modelled in trueSpace and postwork in Corel GS. This is NOT official art for the series, it's merely fan-art from a dedicated admirer of Kenneth Johnson's work. I hope one day we will see the series come to life and see these iconic ships rise again to the LA skies ...

This is one of my favorite pictures. It's not really portfolio material, since it's quite old. But this was done on a summernight at about 4 or 5 am when the sun didn't set and I spent the whole night scetching stuff. So lot of that ultimate free feeling went into this picture.

The original is a stock photo from the finnish photographer Suzi9mm (Jenni Tapanila). This was a homage to her work.

Ah, the good old times when I had but Paint Shop Pro to work with. Made in about 1h, this picture was made by layering rust photos on top of the original and blending those layers together. It's an oldie but goldie.
